Last Sunday I took part in my first race which was a Colour Run. It was 5km and was really fun! I wasn't really sure what to expect when I signed up so I thought I would do this blog post for anyone who is thinking of doing a Colour Run.
1. What is the colour?
The colour is basically a plastic bag of coloured dust which you throw on yourself and on your friends to make it look like a rainbow just threw up on you.
I don't know if this is the case with every colour run, but for the one I did everyone was given one bag of colour which was pre-paid in the ticket price. Then if you want any more colour you have to pay for it so remember to bring some money along with you!
No, it doesn't stain, but I would recommend getting your clothes washed as soon as you get back from the run because the longer you leave it, the harder it will be to get the colour out.
The only piece of clothing which I found hard to get the stains out of was my sports bra. I'm not sure whether it's the material or something, but on the whole, my clothes are now colour free!
My sister and I were paranoid about our phones because we didn't want any colour dust getting in the speaker holes or doing anything to damage them. Our advice which is tried and tested: cling film.
This may sound really stupid but wrap up your phone in some cling film, leaving the camera on the back free so that you can still take photos. It's such a thin material that you can still use the touch screen, but it stops any dust from getting into your phone.
4. Do I need to train for the Colour Run?
This is completely up to you! As I've said before, this was my first race so I can't really compare it against anything else, but in my case there was such a mix of people who were walking and running, so you don't really need to train.
I tend to run 3/4 times a week anyway so I found the run ok, but there's no pressure at all, it's just a fun event!
5. Should I bring water?
This is true for any race, but I can't tell you how important it is to have water with you! I would recommend keeping really hydrated before the race and then taking a bottle of water with you. Don't take a massive bottle with you though because remember you have to carry it!
Let me know in the comments below if you have any questions which I haven't managed to answer.
I hope you're all having a fab weekend!
Love as always
Emma
